Sports & youth services minister of Mizoram, Robert RomawiaRoyte, felicitated three Mizo women boxers on Friday, last, – Vanlalduati, Lalbuatsaihi and LalfakmawiiRalte, who won medals at the World Police and Fire Games held at Chengdu in China from August 9 to 18 last.

Congratulating the trio, the sports minister remarked that their success was not a small feat and their efforts were really commendable and way out of the league.

He said, “The trio was lucky as they will now be counted amongst the few Mizos who have won medals under the tricolor in an international event.”

On the occasion to felicitate them, he reiterated, “The government of Mizoram is committed in developing sports in the state, in a professional manner.”

He also remarked, “Mizoram is planning to bid for hosting the National Games in 2024 to add for feathers to this land locked state.”

Vanlalduati of Border Security Force (BSF) won the Gold Medal in the Women’s Boxing 51 kgs category; Lalbuatsaihi of SashatraSeemaBal (SSB) won the Gold Medal in the Women’s Boxing 64 kgs category while LalfakmawiiRalte, also of SSB, won the Silver Medal in the Women’s Boxing 81 kgs category.

India’s medal tally at the World Police and Fire Games, stood at 286 with 139 Gold, 81 Silver and 66 Bronze medals.

The biennial athletic event this year drew more than 8000 athletes from 79 nations, informed the Sports & Youth Services Department of Mizoram.
