Amid panic and tension triggered by the outbreak of coronavirus, Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee (MKHC), has asked its member churches to seek divine intervention to contain the global outbreak.
This was informed by a church leader on Thursday.

MKHC is a conglomerate of 15 major churches in the State headed by Mizoram Presbyterian Church of India.

The church leaders committee has sent notice to its members asking them to hold mass prayer programme on Saturday or Sunday evening, the committee general secretary Rev Lalrinsanga said.

He said the member churches were asked to seek God’s intervention so that Mizoram is safe from the coronavirus and its global outbreak is fully contained or create no more disaster.
“All the member churches across the state will hold congregational prayer during church services either on Saturday or Sunday night as per their convenience,” he said.

Lalrinsanga said that the committee also asked the people not to panic and cooperate with the government’s preventive measure.
“We have appealed to the people to follow and obey the dos and don’ts set by the state government in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state,” he said.
The church leader also said that the committee held a meeting in Aizawl on Wednesday during which it expressed concern about stocking up of essential commodities and hiking prices.
“The church committee appeal to the people not to hoard commodities and hike prices at this juncture of global crisis,” he said.
Normalcy returned in the state on Thursday after panic buying in the wake of global coronavirus outbreak.
Officials of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department said that there was enough stock of rice, cooking gas and oil to last for three months.
The closure of borders does not meant disruption of supply of commodities, they said.
The state government has formally sealed state borders with neighbouring countries and states on Wednesday.
However, few entry and exit points will be opened under strict surveillance along the international and inter-state borders, the home department notification said.
Meanwhile, the central committee of Young Mizo Association or Central YMA has cancelled several of its programme due to coronavirus.
Central YMA vice president Lalhmachhuana said that the association cancelled general conference of Champhai and Serlui group of YMA, annual sports meet and other important event as a precautionary measure.
The events were scheduled for later this month, he said.
