In a gruesome incident, a 61-year-old woman has been murdered by her ex-husband by suicide bombing in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district, police said.  

The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 12:30pm when the victim – Lalthianghlimi, a vegetable vendor, was selling vegetables near High Powered Committee (HPC) office in Lunglei’s Chanmari, the police said. 

Her ex-husband Rohmingliana (62) visited her at her stall and sat by her side smoking a cigarette. 

He hugged her and suddenly the bomb, believed to be gelatin, exploded, the police said.

Lalthianghlimi died on the spot while her husband Rohmingliana was rushed to Lunglei civil hospital, where he too succumbed to his injuries later. 

The two had been separated for about two months over a domestic issue and Lalthianghlimi was living with their eldest daughter. 

The matter is under investigation, police said.
