Mizoram in good state in terms of infrastructures and medicines to combat Covid-19: Govt

Mizoram is currently in a good state in terms of health infrastructures and medicines to combat Covid-19, an official statement said.

During a meeting to review the present Covid-19 scenario in the state presided over by health minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana on Thursday, it has been pointed out that the state has enough stock of Rapid Antigen Test, which will be sufficient for the next two weeks and Viral transport Medium (VTM) for 5 months, the statement said.

The state will receive another consignment of RT-PCR test kits from ICMR to replace 20,000 test kits, which have became outdated and 20,000 more RNA extraction kits will arrive soon from Delhi and 1,000 RNA extractions are now being dispatched from Guwahati, it said.

Testing of samples for Covid-19 at RT-PCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College (ZMC), which was interrupted due to insufficient supply of test kits, is expected to get normal in the next few days, it said.

The meeting also mentioned that the state now has sufficient stock of PPE kits, masks, sanitizers, sodium hypochlorite and other Covid-19 related equipment and medicines, it said.

Installation of 25 bedded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 10 bedded each of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) at ZMC is more or less completed, it said.

The meeting also said that efforts are on to install oxygen outlets in such ICUs and technicians are soon to arrive from outside the state.

At least 4 people died due to Covid-19 at ZMC on April, 24 in May, 50 in June, 42 in July and 12 in August so far.

Installation of 10 bedded ICU at Aizawl Civil Hospital to treat patients, who need post-Covid-19 ventilator support is also on the verge of completion, the official statement said.

Besides, upgrade of 40 bedded Kulikawn hospital in Aizawl, which was converted into Dedicated Covid-19 Health Centre (DCHC), has been completed and upgrade of MSSC hostel into DCHC is expected to be completed very soon, it said.
