Troopers of the Assam Rifles have seized an illegal consignment of areca nut worth over Rs 1.26 crores.
The illegal areca nuts consignment was seized from Rauntlang area in Champhai district by troopers of the Serchhip battalion of the Assam Rifles.
The consignment consisted of 563 bags of areca nuts.
The illegal consignment of areca nuts was seized in a joint operation carried out by the Assam Rifles and Custom Preventive Force, Champhai District.

Approximate cost of the recovered areca nuts consignment is Rs 1,26,11,200.
“Ongoing smuggling of banned items is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,” Assam Rifles said.
