National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and DIET, Siaha in Mizoram jointly held an one-day awareness programme on Monday.

The programme was for school community members on Prevention of Drug Abuse (under NAPDDR-National action plan for drug demand reduction).

The awareness meet was held at I&PRO Conference Hall, in the forenoon at Siaha.

Sahlo Bohia, lecturer DIET presided over the programme and N Vabeiratlua, DIPRO delivered the inaugural speech.

In his speeches Vabeiratlua reminded the august gathering that it was high time that the focus be shifted towards demand reduction initiatives.

He also said it is about time to bolster and provide impetus to unending supply reduction drives by government and NGOs, to curb the menace of drugs abuse among our youths.

The programme was organized solely for leaders of NGOs, youth wing of various churches, personnel of block resource centre and circle resource centre under SSA.

The faculty members of DIET delivered lectures on the relevant topics of the day.
