Mizoram Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Friday felicitated Lalvenhimi, a daughter of a daily wage labourer, who despite her poor family background and various hurdles secured the eighth rank in Class 12 board examinations declared by Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) on July 13.
The Governor invited the student along with her parents and handed over a citation to the student.
Pillai hailed the girl’s achievement and hard work and said she has not only set an example but also became a source of inspiration for all the students in the country.
The 17-year-old student of Durtlang Higher Secondary School in Aizawl secured 437 out of 500 marks with letter marks in all five subjects in Arts stream to clinch the eighth rank in the higher secondary school leaving certificate examinations despite poverty.
Her father Lalfakliana is a daily wage earner.
Lalvenhimi used to have no excuses to do any labour to get education.
She supported her parents in every possible way she could.
Despite her tight schedule performing household chores and looking after her siblings while her parents were away from home she regularly followed her daily routine and studied from 3 am to 7 am in the morning and 6 pm to 10 pm at night.
She dreams to become a college teacher in future.
She will pursue her higher studies in Bachelor of Arts at Government Hrangbana College, which offered her free admission in recognition of her outstanding achievement.
