Aizwal: The Mizoram government has withdrawn its earlier decision to reappoint retired official R. Lalrodingi as Director of the Tourism Department following criticism and objections raised over the move.
Lalrodingi, who retired on April 30 after serving as Additional Director in the Commerce, Industries, Geology and Mining Department, was initially re-employed as Tourism Director through a government order issued on April 24, with effect from May 1.
However, the state government later revoked the appointment and decided that she would continue only in her existing role as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister.
The decision came after prominent student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) urged the government to cancel the re-employment order.
Subsequently, a revised notification issued on May 15 replaced the earlier order. Under the new arrangement, Lalrodingi will serve as OSD to the Chief Minister on a co-terminus basis, meaning her tenure will remain valid only until the current government completes its term.
According to details from the Finance Department, she will receive a monthly remuneration of Rs 35,000 and hold the rank of Secretary in the state government.
