AIZAWL: Mizoram governor Dr. Hari Babu Kam Kambhampati on Tuesday paid a visit to National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) at Zuangtui in the northern outskirts of Aizawl.
Besides taking stock of the institution, the governor also interacted with faculty members and students.

During his visit, Kambhampati said that NIELIT has achieved significant progress in just over two decades, benefiting many people, and he was delighted to learn that the Lunglei NIELIT Extension Centre has also been completed.
The Governor said that the Country has made a significant progress in the IT sector and the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Digital India campaign, which is being implemented vigorously across the country.
The Prime Minister’s goal is to make India a developed and prosperous country (Viksit Bharat) by 2047 and to achieve this, everyone needs to be digitally literate and the NIELIT has a crucial role to play in this regard, he said.

Kambhampati said that digital technology has greatly impacted crucial sections like health, education and agriculture.
He said that it enabled quality healthcare services to reach remote areas through telemedicine.
The education system has also benefited from IT and electronics, which was clearly manifested during the Covid pandemic, he said.
The Governor stressed that IT and electronics have brought significant development, but also pose challenges like cybercrime.
To commemorate his visit to NIELIT, Kambhamati planted a fruit bearing sapling (locally called Lenhmui ) at the NIELIT campus.
NIELIT authorities submitted proposals to the governor regarding the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) laboratory, land for NIELIT’s Deemed University status, and the request for recognition of NSQF-aligned certificates for LDC job applications.
The Mizoram governor assured them of his support.
