A month after churches were reopened for only daytime on Saturdays or Sundays without congregational singing, the Mizoram government on Tuesday decided to allow holding church service at night time twice a week.
An official statement said that the meeting of officials, churches and NGOs to assess the present Covid-19 situation in the state on Tuesday decided to allow night services two times a week apart from holding worship service at noon time on Saturdays or Sundays.

The meeting, which was presided over by health minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana also decided to allow congregational singing during worship service in the church, the statement said.
State Executive Committee on State Disaster Management has been tasked to prepare Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and issue an order in this regard, it said.
The meeting, which was also attended by home minister Lalchamliana, granted permission to Mizoram Presbyterian Church to organise night programmes at ‘Kohhran Hmeichhe Khawmpui Lian’ (Women department general conference) to be held at Khatla Presbyterian church in Aizawl on Wednesday and Thursday, the statement said.

Churches and other religious places were reopened from first February after they have been closed for nearly 11 months since March last year due to the spread of Covid-19.
However, church service was initially allowed at noon time only on Saturdays exclusively for Sabbath devotees and Sunday for other denominations.
Congregational song or singing hymns during worship service was not allowed previously.
Mizoram’s Covid-19 curve has shown a significant downward trend since November last year.
There are only seven active patients in the state and a total of 4,415 people (99.62 %) have already recovered from the infection.
The Northeastern state on Tuesday reported four cases, pushing the total Covid-19 caseload to 4,432.
