Mizoram government asks UK returnees to report to medical counters

The Mizoram government on Wednesday asked people, who return from the United Kingdom and other European countries to report to the medical counter in all the entry points in the wake of the outbreak of a new strain of coronavirus in the UK.

A notification issued by the state government said that returnees from the United Kingdom and Europe must report to each medical counter set up at Lengpui Airport, Vairengte and other entry points to prevent the spread of the mutant coronavirus in the state.

The order said that all returnees from the UK, Europe and other new coronavirus strain hit countries should undergo mandatory RT-PCR lab test and also take up Rapid Antigen Test even if they test negative in the RT-PCR lab.

The returnees will have to be placed under quarantine at designated facilities till the next round or confirmatory test of the new strain of virus, the notification said.

They will not be allowed to go for home quarantine, it added.

The number of the United Kingdom returnees, who have tested positive for the new strain of Coronavirus, has reached 20 on Wednesday, Union Health Ministry said.

Of the 20 new cases, eight cases were reported from Delhi, seven from Karnataka and one each case was reported from Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana, the ministry said.

The first case of the new coronavirus mutant genome was reported in the UK in September.
