A district level committee meeting on celebration of the upcoming 71st Republic Day was held on Wednesday at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office, Lawngtlai in Mizoram.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner Shashanka Ala.

Important matters pertaining to the celebration of the Republic Day were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting resolved to organize the celebration at CYLA Playground and since the day falls on Sunday, ceremonial function will start at 8 am.

Like previous years, there will be a ceremonial parade by armed, unarmed, school and band party contingents.

Prizes will be given away to parade contingents and judges.

The national flag shall be hoisted in all government offices, institutions and quarters on the day.

Gifts will be given to child-care institution, jail and hospitals.

Volleyball and badminton tournaments will be organized in association with the celebration of the Republic Day.

Meanwhile, the Republic Day celebration committee of Siaha held its first meeting to chalk out the programme at the deputy commissioner’s office on Wednesday.

Since District Playground, where the celebration was used to be conducted, will not be ready for use on that day, the meeting selected Meisatla field for the venue of celebration.

The programme is scheduled to begin at 8 am.

The meeting also decided to forgo ‘tableau show’ and ‘At Home’ programme on account of the inconvenience of venue’s premises and date, as this year’s Republic Day falls on Sunday.

Various responsibilities and duties were deliberated upon and assigned to each department for the grand success of the Republic Day, 2020 celebration programme.

The meeting also decided to have a review meeting on January 22 next.
