Aizawl: At least four people were arrested for allegedly possessing heroin and smuggling areca nuts in Mizoram, officials said.
State excise department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said that officials of the department and volunteers of Ythe oung Mizo Association (YMA) on Wednesday 510 grams of heroin at the Zemabawk area in Aizawl.

Two persons from Champhai town were arrested for possessing the contraband, he said.
He added that a car used for transporting the heroin was seized by the excise officials.

An Assam Rifles officer also said that two other persons were arrested by the paramilitary force during operations at Murlen and Zote villages in east Mizoram’s Champhai district for possessing heroin and smuggled areca nuts on Tuesday.
The two accused and seized contraband were handed over to the state excise and narcotics department, she said.
