Mizoram fisheries minister K Lalrinliana on Wednesday visited various on-going works under the Fisheries Department within Kolasib district.

These included hatchery unit at Zero Point, Bairabi road; continuation of cage culture at Serlui B and Ice Plant at Bilkhawthlir.

The minister was accompanied by F Vanlallawma, director, Fisheries Department; C Lalparmawii, DFDO and several other officials from the department and members from Zofishfed.

The minister was impressed by the initiative taken at hatchery unit of Zero Point in Bairabi road.

He mentioned that the hatchery unit will be an important tool in meeting the demand of good quality fish in the State.

The minister inspected the site for carrying out cage culture at Serlui B and discussed with the department officials for further plan of action to make the system more fruitful.

Hatchery Unit at Zero Point is an initiative taken under Blue Revolution which is designed to yield 20 to 24 lakhs eggs per batch.

Currently there are three varieties of fish reared in the hatchery unit which was provided by Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture.

They are Jayanti Rohu, Amur Carp and Catla.
