AIZAWL: In a heinous crime, a 53-year-old man and his 23-year-old son from a village in Champhai district of Mizoram near the Myanmar border were recently arrested and sent to jail for allegedly repeatedly raping a minor girl.
The accused have been identified as Saitawna and his son, Vanlalmawia.
They were accused of molesting the girl since she was four years old.
The heinous crime came to light recently when the girl’s teacher asked her to write about her experience in life, which she has not told anyone before.
It was during the exercise that the girl disclosed the harrowing ordeal she had endured.
According to her revelation, Saitawna had molested her when she was four years old and his son raped her when she was nine.
After such incidents, the father, son duo repeatedly raped her for years, she said.
Although the teacher urged the girl to report the incident to the police, she wanted to file a complaint after she completed class-10 board exams.
When she completed exams, her father lodged a complaint with the police leading to the arrest of the two accused.
Meanwhile, Mizoram’s apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) strongly condemned the incident and demanded stringent punishment against the two accused.
