The Mizoram government on Friday decided to extend the lockdown till May 31, an official informed.
The decision was taken with the aim to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the state.
Earlier on Thursday several political parties and organisations, taking part in a meeting, requested the government to extend lockdown in the state.
The meeting was held under the leadership of Chief Minister Zoramthanga.
However, the meeting referred the matter to the state-level task force on mitigation of COVID-19 for the final decision, she said.
The official further informed that new guidelines for extended lockdown too were discussed in the meeting.
Mizoram as of now is free of Covid-19 since May 9 when its lone patient tested negative and discharged from Zoram Medical College (ZMC), the state’s lone medical college and dedicated Covid-19 hospital located about 16 km from Aizawl.
