Mizoram state election commission on Tuesday postponed elections to seven village councils in Aizawl district and two local councils in Aizawl municipal area scheduled to be held on Thursday in the wake of a surge in local transmission cases of COVID-19 in such areas.
The order issued by the state election commission said that polling for 7 village councils- Sawleng, Darlawn Chhimveng, Darlawn Venghlun, Darlawn Vengpui, Melriat, Hualngohmun, and two local councils- Chaltlang Lily Veng and Ramhlun South has been deferred until further order.
State election commission secretary Teresy Vanlalhruai said that polling for remaining village councils and local councils will be held on Thursday from 7 am to 5 pm as per scheduled.
The last date of the campaign for the rural and local body polls ended on Tuesday.
According to Vanlalhruaii, polling will be held under strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
