Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) secretary Dr Inder Jit Singh said the Mizoram government has to make massive effort to check the growing spread of AIDS in the State.

Singh on Thursday called on state Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai at Raj Bhavan in Aizawl.

He said the growing cases of AIDS in Mizoram are a big problem that needs to be attended immediately.

He informed Pillai that he visited several projects in the State during the past two days and met important officials, including state chief secretary Lalnunmawia Chuaungo with whom he discussed about the ongoing projects in the State.

He said that several projects in the state got delayed and some were completed two years after the deadline.

He informed the Governor that the DoNER ministry faced inconvenience in obtaining fund for the Northeast due to delay in projects.

Singh also that Mizoram has lots of opportunity in tourism and skill development sector and fund received by the State Government for projects under these sectors was considerably less.

Quoting NITI Aayog, he said Mizoram lies at bottom among 28 states in important sectors such as economic, infrastructure, health and sanitation.

He also visited Zoram Medical College (ZMC) at Falkawn where he spoke on the need for Mizoram to push its rank in NITI Aayog’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) index.
