Mizoram COVID-19 crisis: Six more deaths, 1302 new cases detected

At least 1302 new Covid-19 cases and 6 deaths were reported in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s Covid-19 tally to 1,02,629 and death toll to 341, a health department official said on Thursday. 

On Wednesday 1,471 cases and 4 fatalities were reported in the state.

The fresh cases were reported from various districts with Aizawl registering the highest number at 728, followed by Lunglei district (147) and Champhai district (113), the official said. 

The single-day positivity rate was 13.35 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 9,749 sample tests, he said. 

At least 263 children and 38 prisoners in Kolasib district jail were among the newly infected people, he said.

Seven patients have travel history and the rest 1,295 were found to have contracted the virus locally, he added. 

Mizoram now has 16,075 COVID-19 active cases, while 86,213 people have recovered from the infection, including 1,226 people on Wednesday. 

The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients is 84 per cent and the death rate is 0.33 per cent. 

The state has conducted more than 11.49 lakh sample tests for COvid-19 till date. 

Over 6.84 lakh people have been vaccinated, of which 4.59 lakh people have received full dose of Covid-19 vaccine till Wednesday, state immunisation officer Dr Lalzawmi said.
