Aizawl: Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday demanded transparency and a high-level investigation into the controversial transfer of land near Lengpui Airport to the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The party alleged โhidden agendasโ and financial irregularities in the transaction, which has sparked public concern and political debate between the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF).
Speaking at a press conference, Congress general secretary and spokesperson Lalbiakzama said media and social media reports suggest that intermediaries may have received disproportionately higher payouts than the actual landowners. He questioned the speed with which the deal was finalized and sought to identify those responsible for allegedly bypassing established legal protocols.
โIt appears there are hidden agendas, and a significant amount of money may have been siphoned off. Certain individuals have received more than the landowners themselves. We demand to know who authorized this rushed process while allegedly bypassing legal procedures,โ Lalbiakzama said.
He also sought clarification on whether the transaction was an outright sale or a long-term lease and positioned the state government as the primary โfacilitatorโ of the deal. โThe government owes the public a clear and honest explanation. We are monitoring whether it will inform citizens or remain silent on these discrepancies,โ he added.
The Congress demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities and insisted that anyone found responsible be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Earlier, the MNF had also called for a CBI probe into the matter, highlighting the growing scrutiny over the land transfer.
