Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a project to protect flora and fauna at Mizo village in Reikek.
CJI Bobde simultaneously flagged off a cleanliness drive in Reiek.
Speaking on the occasion, CJI Bobde said cleanliness is an important step towards development.
He said every citizen has a responsibility to maintain its surroundings neat and clean and must behave to be a role model for others in the way of maintaining cleanliness.
The Chief Justice of India also visited Reiek hill (Reiek Tlang), the famous mountain in the state.
He was accompanied by Gauhati High Court Judges, Justice Michael Zothankhuma and Justice Nelson Sailo, former Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ajit Singh among others.
Bobde arrived in Aizawl on Monday on a two-day visit to Mizoram.
He is the first Chief Justice of India to visit the state in 30 years.
