AIZAWL: Various civil society organisations in Chawngte town in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district have threatened to boycott Independence Day if the government fails to address their demands within a stipulated time.
The NGOs on Saturday held a joint meeting at Chawngte over the pressing needs of the town.

The meeting observed that the state government did not take sincere steps to repair internal roads within the town and to provide workers and medical facilities at Chawngte Community Health Centre (CHC).

It said that the NGOs have repeatedly approached the state PWD minister to repair dilapidated roads in the town and also met the health minister requesting her to provide medical staff and other medical facilities in the CHC.
The joint meeting resolved that the celebration of Independence would be boycotted if the government failed to meet their demands on or before August 13.
