Aizawl: The Mizoram unit of the BJP on Wednesday took out a march in Aizawl under the theme โSave Democracy, Remove Anarchyโ, with party leaders calling for the protection of democratic institutions and urging people to support the BJP ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
The march began at Zarkawt traffic point and culminated outside Vanapa Hall.
Speaking on the occasion, Mizoram in-charge Bhagwat Karad said that the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been giving greater attention to the northeastern states and claimed that Mizoram was receiving particular importance.
Referring to border management, he said that fencing was being undertaken along the Bangladesh border to protect the state and prevent illegal entry.
Karad also promised to work towards addressing problems faced by people in Mizoram, particularly ginger farmers, by helping expand market opportunities.
The former Union Minister of State also said he would seek to facilitate greater employment opportunities for young people and urged voters to support the BJP in the 2028 Assembly elections for what he described as genuine development in the state.
Mizoram BJP unit president K. Beichhua, meanwhile, defended the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, saying the exercise was being implemented smoothly in Mizoram.
He claimed that more than 30,000 names, accounting for around 3.89 per cent of voters, had been removed from the Mizoram electoral rolls, including those of people who had shifted elsewhere, deceased persons and individuals registered at more than one location.
He rejected allegations that the exercise was targeting Congress voters, saying the BJP itself had many supporters among those whose names had been deleted.
Beichhua also said that the SIR was based on provisions enacted during the Congress-led government and maintained that the exercise was intended to ensure that only genuine voters exercised their franchise.
He alleged that the Congress and its supporters were attempting to discredit the process through โfalse allegationsโ.
The BJP leader also said that his party opposed any attempt to change governments through force and stressed that the people’s electoral mandate should be respected.
