Guwahati: The Mizoram Assembly will hold its two-day monsoon session from August 25, with the House likely to formally adopt ‘Ro Min Rel Sak Ang Che’ as the state’s official song.

The session programme was finalised by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) at a meeting chaired by Speaker Lalbiakzama on August 14, an Assembly official said on August 17.

A resolution seeking formal recognition of the song is expected to be introduced during the session. The House is also likely to take up several bills, including the Mizoram Water Information and Governance Bill, 2026, which has already been submitted to the Assembly secretariat.

The state Cabinet approved ‘Ro Min Rel Sak Ang Che’ as Mizoram’s official song on August 10.

Written and composed by prominent Mizo writer Rokunga in 1947, the title translates to “Be Thou Our Counsellor”. The song was used as the national anthem by the underground Mizo National Front (MNF) government during the insurgency.

Although it has not received formal state recognition until now, the song has long been regarded by many in Mizoram as an unofficial state anthem.

Its use in public institutions increased in 2022 when the then MNF-led government instructed schools across the state to sing the song before the start of classes.

The upcoming session is also expected to see members raise a range of issues through questions. The Assembly has received 295 starred and 73 unstarred questions, which ministers will answer orally and in writing.

So far, two bills have been submitted to the Assembly secretariat for introduction, including the Mizoram Water Information and Governance Bill, 2026.
