In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Assam Rifles troops deployed in Mizoram recovered smuggled areca nuts worth Rs 47,73,600 at Tlangsam in Champhai district.
The consignment was recovered by the Serchhip Battalion of HQ 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), the HQ IGAR (East) said in a statement.

“The operation was carried out by a joint team of 8 Assam Rifles, 10 Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai based on specific information,” read an official statement.
According to HQ IGAR (East), during the operation carried out on Tuesday, 153 bags of smuggled areca nuts were recovered from Tlangsam in Mizoram’s Champhai district.

“Approximate cost of the recovered Areca Nuts is Rs 47,73,600/-,” HQ IGAR (East) informed.
“Ongoing smuggling of Areca Nuts is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,” the Assam Rifles said.
