AIZAWL: A 28-year-old policeman has been suspended for allegedly assaulting three people at a street in Aizawl, Mizoram.

The policeman identified as Sailianpuia Sailo, who is currently posted at Sairang police station near Aizawl, along with five other youths assaulted two doctors and their layman friend.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of September 21 and September 22 when the three were returning home after work, they said. 

The two doctors were working in a church-run hospital in Aizawl. 

The assailants forcefully dragged them out of their vehicle and beat them, police said.

The two doctors sustained grievous injuries, while their friend suffered minor injuries, they said. 

Following a complaint filed by one of the victims, police launched an investigation and arrested the six accused, including Sailo, on Monday. 

They were booked under section   117 (2)/115(2)/3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said.

However, the six accused were released on bail on Monday.
