Mizoram tourism conclave
State Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Friday met officials of NITI Aayog in New Delhi to discuss plans for the proposed conclave, the statement said.

Aizawl: The Mizoram government is set to host a tourism conclave in October this year to boost the state’s tourism sector, an official statement said.

State Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Friday met officials of NITI Aayog in New Delhi to discuss plans for the proposed conclave, the statement said.

The meeting, held at Mizoram House in Chanakyapuri, also focused on organising a pre-conclave session in the national capital next month to lay the groundwork for the main event, it added.

The NITI Aayog delegation was led by Deputy Director General Swapnalee Bhattacharya.

Highlighting the state’s growing tourism potential, Hmar told NITI Aayog officials that visitor numbers have surged following the operationalisation of the Sairang railway link.

He said monthly tourist arrivals have already crossed one lakh and attributed the rise to improved connectivity and accessibility.

“We are working towards positioning Mizoram as the ‘Winter Capital of India’ while also expanding tourism offerings to encourage longer stays,” Hmar was quoted as saying in the statement.

The statement said that Friday’s meeting decided to hold the pre-conclave session in May at Vigyan Bhawan, where policymakers, industry leaders, and key stakeholders from across India will participate in brainstorming sessions on boosting Mizoram’s tourism sector.

The outcomes are expected to feed directly into the October conclave, it said.

The discussions also covered coordination between NITI Aayog and the Mizoram government, including the allocation of responsibilities and finalisation of the conclave’s detailed programme in consultation with the state’s Tourism Department, it added.

Officials said the proposed October conclave is expected to bring together a wide range of stakeholders with the aim of generating actionable strategies to drive sustainable tourism growth and ensure tangible economic benefits for the state.
