At least 63 persons per 1,000 thousand population in Mizoram were infected with Covid-19 after the total count reached 69,751 with 725 new cases reported on Saturday, an official statement said. 

The death toll in the state remains at 233, which means 21 persons per 1 lakh population have succumbed to the infection so far, the statement said. 

The 725 fresh cases detected from 6,754 samples, which put the single-day positivity rate at 10.73 per cent, were reported from various districts with Aizawl registering the highest at 438, followed by Lunglei district and Lawngtlai district, both reported 72 and 48 cases respectively, it said.

At least 168 children were among the newly infected people, it said.

One patient has a travel history and the rest 724 were found to have locally contracted the virus, it said.

Of the 725 patients, 432 have developed symptoms of Covid-19, it said. 

Mizoram now has 12,347 Covid-19 active cases while 57,171 people have recovered from the infection, including 816 people on Friday.  

The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients is 81.96 per cent and the death rate is 0.33 per cent.

The state has conducted more than 9.55 samples tests for Covid-19 till date.  

According to state immunisation officer Dr. Lalzawmi, over 6.63 lakh people have been vaccinated till Friday, of which 2.96 lakh people have received full doses.
