At least 45 people, including 3 Army personnel, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s caseload to 860, a health department official said.
Of the 45 cases, two were local transmission as the patients have no travel history, the official said.
21 cases were reported from Aizawl district, 14 from Kolasib district, 6 from Lawngtlai district, 1 from Lunglei district and 3 cases were reported from west Mizoram’s Mamit district bordering Tripura and Bangladesh, he said.
The newly infected patients, which consisted of 30 males and 15 males, included 3 Army personnel, 14 truck drivers, who came from Assam, Jharkhand and Haryana and the remaining 28 were state residents, according to the official.
Apart from two local contact patients, all the patients have travel history, he said.
All the patients aged 19 to 50 were asymptomatic, he said.
There are 481 active patients in the state while 379 people have already recovered from the deadly virus.
According to the health department, as many as 27,388 samples have been tested till Tuesday, of which 3.14 per cent have come out as positive for Covid-19.
The recovery rate is 44 per cent, it said.
Meanwhile, the state government on Tuesday issued an order allowing the revelation of the identities of Covid-19 infected patients and suspected patients with prior permission from either Deputy Commissioner or Chief Medical Officer of their respective districts to facilitate contact tracing and expedite the fight against the deadly virus.
The infected patients themselves can also reveal their identities, the order issued by health department secretary H. Lalengmawia said.
Earlier the state government has prohibited revealing of the identities of Covid-19 patients or suspected persons.
“The Mizoram “Containment and Prevention of Covid-19) Ordinance, 2020” that came into effect from May 4 said that revealing or displaying the identity of Covid-19 infected patients or suspected persons without prior permission from competent authority is an offence punishable with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 months or with fine which may extend to Rs.5000, or with both.
