Aizawl: In a major blow to drug trafficking, officials of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department seized 3.64 kilograms of heroin worth over Rs. 90 lakh during a raid in Aizawl’s Khatla area on Tuesday morning.
The seized heroin, believed to be smuggled from Myanmar and destined for points beyond Mizoram, marks the largest drug haul in the state for the year 2024.

Acting on a tip-off, Excise and Narcotics officials intercepted a mini truck and upon inspection, discovered the concealed heroin.

Three individuals – Nangzagina (50) and Roluahpuia (53), both residents of Ngur village in Champhai district, and Faizur Rahman Barbhuiya (39) from Bagha Bazar in Assam’s Cachar district – were promptly apprehended for possessing the illegal substance.

The confiscated mini truck used for transportation was also seized by the department.

All three accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and were produced before a magistrate on Tuesday.
