Ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) vice president Lalthlengliana has expressed confidence that it would win the upcoming Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) polls.

Addressing a function at Aizawl on Thursday, Lalthlengliana said the regional party will continue with its winning spree and sweep the AMC polls to be held this year.

He said the MNF has won all the polls held in the state after the party assumed power in December 2018.

These elections include village councils, local councils and Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC), among others, he said.

He said the party has projected good candidates for the upcoming AMC polls.

The AMC is due for election this year.

In December last year, the state government had appointed sitting municipal commissioner K. Laldingliana as the administrator to exercise all power and function vested on the municipal authorities as the corporation term ended on December 10, 2020.

K. Laldingliana will act as the administrator till the election is held.

There are 19 seats in AMC, of which 6 seats are reserved for women.

Meanwhile, state election commissioner Laima Chozah said the commission is yet to consult the state government regarding the elections to AMC.

He said elections could not be held earlier due to the spread of Covid19.

He added that the AMC polls would be held depending on the Covid19 scenario.
