Mizo footballers shine at Indian Super League

Playing alongside the acclaimed international star players and performing so well in the Indian Super League speaks volumes of young Mizo players.

With few playing time they are getting at their clubs, Isaac Vanmalsawma of Pune FC and Lalthuammawia Ralte of Bengaluru FC were adjudged emerging player of the match, an award the ISL doled out every match to showcase the young Indian talents.

Jerry Lalrinzuala won the Emerging Player award seven times from 17 starts for his club Chennaiyin FC, he tied the most number of award with the season’s winner of the Emerging Player award, Lalruatthara from Kerala Blasters. Jerry Mawihmingthanga and Lallianzuala Chhangte both won the match’s emerging player award five times each.

Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte appeared in just one match, and still managed to be named emerging player of the match.

“I am really happy and impressed to see young Mizo talents making their presence known in the just concluded ISL season, Lalruatthaara truly deserved to win the season’s Emerging Player award, I wish him a bright future,” Indian ace striker Jeje Lalpekhlua said.

Jerry Lalrinzuala, who won the Emerging Player award in 2017-2017 season also congratulated Lalruatthara, saying that he had done better and deserved the award.

“My sincerest congratulation to him for winning the award, it feels good to see another Mizo doing so good in the ISL,” Jerry Lalrinzuala said.

The top Mizo player, who has been termed as ‘The Mizo Sniper’ Jeje Lalpekhlua, even though lost the crown of being the highest Indian goal scorer in the league to Sunil Chhetri, has scored seven goals and made 2 breathtaking assists.

The Indian striker has remarked on the good performances of his co-Mizo players. “My blessings and wishes go out to all the young Mizo players, the pride and the honour the boys have given to Mizoram is well deserved, my heartiest congratulations to Lalruatthara for winning the Emerging Player of the season,” Jeje Lalpekhlua said.

Another young Mizo, Delhi Dynamos forward Lallianzuala Chhangte also marked his second ISL season with 3 goals. Chhangte also bagged player of the match award once and five emerging player awards.
