Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga on Sunday had a virtual meeting with Myanmar foreign minister Zin Mar Aung regarding the ongoing crisis in Myanmar following the military coup.
Confirming the news, Zoramthanga said the meeting which was held online in the morning was a fruitful one.

“Had a fruitful meeting (online) this morning with Zin Mar Aung, Hon’ble Foreign Minister, Myanmar,” Zoramthanga tweeted on Sunday.
The Mizoram chief minister, while praying for the people of Myanmar, who are passing “trying times”, wrote on his Tweeter handle: “Our thoughts and prayers are with #Myanmar in these trying times.”
Mizoram’s Rajya Sabha MP K. Vanlalvena on Tuesday last told the Upper House that over 300 Myanmar nationals have already crossed to Mizoram following the military coup.

Vanlalvena belongs to Mizo National Front (MNF), which is a partner of the BJP-led NDA.
He urged the Centre to change India’s foreign policy towards Myanmar and not to send back the Myanmar nationals, who have taken refuge in the country.
Mizoram CM Zoramthanga has also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the advisory of the Union home ministry to the chief secretaries of the 3 Northeast states bordering Myanmar and the Assam Rifles regiment guarding the border, to prevent illegal influx from Myanmar into India and initiate the deportation processes without delay, was “not acceptable to Mizoram”.
Zoramthanga is of the view that India, being the largest democracy in the world and Myanmar’s immediate neighbour “needs to do more and open up more”.
The Mizoram chief minister urged PM Modi to “to intervene so that the political refugees from Myanmar are given asylum and provided food and shelter here in the country”.
