Locally made sanitizers need test to meet safety standard: Mizoram government

The Mizoram government has asked local hand sanitizers manufactures, including NGOs to test their products before distributing it for public use or sale.

This was stated in an official statement made by the state health department on Saturday.

The official said that the health department issued an advisory order on Friday making mandatory for hand sanitizers developed within the state to undergo a test at Food and Drug Testing Laboratory, Central Medical Store at Zemabawk or Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences(RIPANS) to ensure that they meet the safety standards.

He said that the department has greatly appreciated the manufacture for developing hand sanitizers during the nationwide lockdown imposed to break the chain of novel coronavirus pandemic.

“We strongly appreciated the efforts of some groups and individual in manufacturing locally made hand sanitizers,” the official said.

“However, the manufacturers must test their products to ensure that they meet the required safety standard,” he said.

Meanwhile, many groups and individuals are stepping up the measure to develop sanitizers and protective masks for public use.

These locally produced hand sanitizers and masks were provided to frontline workers like health workers, police and volunteers of village or local level task forces.

Meanwhile, the state government on Saturday issued an order prohibiting spitting at public places as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.

The prohibitory order issued by state chief secretary said that any violators are liable to be punished for an offence committed under section 13 of “The Mizoram Epidemic Diseases (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020.”
