Troopers of the Assam Rifles have seized an illegal consignmemt of areca nut from Mizoram’s Champhai district.
The seized consignment of 780 bags of areca nut is worth over Rs 1.7 crores.

“The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Customs Department, Champhai based on specific information,” the Assam Rifles said in a statement.
The statement adds: “Approximate cost of the recovered Areca Nuts is Rs 1,70,44,800/-.”

The consignment was seized from Khawbung – Zawlsei area in Champhai district of Mizoram.
Security forces have been seizing massive consignments of illegal sumstances in Mizoram’s Champhai district in recent times.
“Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar Border,” the Assam Rifles further said.
