Sleuths of Mizoram police and customs have seized gold worth over Rs 5 crore from two separate locations in Mizoram recently.
Police seized gold bars from Hruaikawn village in Champhai district along Indo-Myanmar border and arrested one person in this connection on May 7.

The seized gold bars weigh around 9.96 kg, and according to police the market value of seized gold bars are estimated at over Rs 3.18 crore.
“Zohmahruaia, (51), a resident of Champhai district, was arrested for alleged possession of the gold bars. The maxi cab and the driver were also apprehended. The seized bars were handed over to the customs officials,” Mizoram Police PRO Lalduhthlanga said.
In another incident at Seling, some 35 km from Aizawl anti-smuggling unit of Customs Division, Aizawl intercepted a passenger vehicle bearing registration No. MZ-01 G-3163 on May 8 and seized 52 pieces of yellow metals weighing 8635.87 gms valued at about Rs 2.69 crore from two passengers.

David Muangpi, (23), a resident of Kawlpi in Myanmar and Somkhankap, (19), from Tahan -B, Myanmar were apprehended by the custom sleuths.
“The yellow metals were wrapped with adhesive yellow cello tape and concealed in their waist to avoid detection,” LH Haokip, Superintendent of Customs Division in Aizawl said.
