Twelve more people, including five Border Security Force (BSF) jawans in Mizoram have tested positive for novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the state’s tally to 620, an official said.

Five cases were reported from Lunglei district, four from Kolasib district, two from Aizawl district and one from Champhai district, the official said.

The newly infected patients also included four truckers and their helpers who came from Uttar Pradesh, Tripura and Assam, he said.

A frontline worker who came in contact with Covid-19 patients has also tested positive for the virus, he said.

The five BSF jawans have returned from Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana and have been placed under quarantine at a facility in Lunglei, according to the official.

The infected state residents barring the frontline worker have returned from Manipur and Myanmar, he said.

There are 322 active patients, which is 51.93 per cent of the total cases, according to health department.

A total of 298 people have already recovered, it said.

There two migrated cases.

The recovery rate is 48 per cent.

The department also said that 23,324 samples have been tested till Sunday, of which 2.65 per cent came out as positive for Covid-19.
