All the Congress members of Mizoram’s Mara Autonomous District Council have decided to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently to form the next executive committee of the council.

This decision was taken during a meeting of the Mara Autonomous District Council held at Siaha.

During the meeting, it was unanimously decided to dissolve the legislature party of the Congress in the council, said N Zakhai, chief executive member of the Mara Autonomous District Council.

“It has been resolved in the meeting that the Congress Legislature Party under the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) shall merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislature Party,” added Zakhai.

The members of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) signed a declaration saying they accept the decision, claimed Zakhai.

While five members – H Sahlo, V VB Byhna, Tiahlei Syuhlo, NG Silla and Ngunsuii – were out of station, conveyed the acceptance of the decision over telephonic conversation.

Mizoram BJP president JV Hluna said, “The Congress had approached the party seeking for a merger and the BJP agreed to it after consultation with central leaders of the party.”

“As soon as the MNF formed government in the state, the Congress was very scared of over the MADC, so they contacted our district president, who in turn came to me,” said JH Hluna.

JV Hluna said he gave the option to the Congress to merge with the saffron party if they wish to and after a series of meetings it was agreed to merge totally with the BJP.

“We are going to form a BJP-led body in Mara Autonomous District Council. There will be no coalition but fully a BJP district council,” said the Mizoram BJP president.
