With Assembly elections slated for later this year, political parties have begun flexing muscles in Mizoram.
Senior Congress leader from Assam, Pradyut Bordoloi who was in Aizawl on Monday, came down heavily on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led Central government for allegedly nurturing anti-people and anti-Northeast policies.

Borodoloi also said that the BJP is ‘trying to rule Mizoram by proxy’ just as it has done in Meghalaya.
Bordoloi, the vice president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), who arrived in Aizawl to take part at a nation-wide protest against fuel price hike on Monday alleged that the BJP government and ‘its driving force – the RSS are dead against the people of Northeast and they have been trying to stifle the region by removing the special category status, abolishing the NEIIPP and funding pattern of 90:10 which were given by the Congress government earlier.
He said this while addressing a demonstration in front of Vanapa Hall in Aizawl to protest against price hike of fuel and other essential commodities as part of the nation-wide call of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

Bordoloi also alleged that ‘the BJP, knowing that the people of Mizoram do not like it’, is now trying to forge alliance with local regional parties like Mizo National Front (MNF).
“The BJP and RSS will not come to the forefront to fight the Assembly elections but would like to prop up MNF in the front and will try to rule Mizoram by proxy,” he said, adding that the BJP at the Centre would use MNF as a ‘scapegoat’ to rule Mizoram.
“This is the reason why the MNF has not been protesting against the anti-people policies of the BJP government in Delhi,” he added.
