The Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (East) conducted a mini marathon on Wednesday.
The mini marathon was conducted on the occasion of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh.
It was organised at the Battalion Headquarters in Serchhip and Company Operating Base at Zokhawthar in Champhai, Farkawn, Khawbung and Sangau on Wednesday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war.
The aim of the event was to highlight the need to foster the spirit of physical fitness and spread the message of unity amongst the countrymen, the HQ IGAR (East) said in a statement.
The event was used as a platform to indoctrinate the spirit of patriotism and value imparted by the Armed Forces among the locals, it said.
A total of 48 locals from various villages along with the troops of the Serchhip Battalion participated in the event, the statement said.
The mini marathon was conducted by observing Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) considering the Covid19 pandemic situation.
“Everyone expressed profound gratitude for undertaking such an initiative and appreciated the continuous efforts and commitments of Assam Rifles in reaching out to the local populace,” HQ IGAR (East) further stated.
