Assam Rifles recovers smuggled areca nuts worth Rs 98 lakh, heroin worth Rs 4 crore in Mizoram

As part of their continued efforts against smuggling in Mizoram, Assam Rifles troops recovered a huge consignment of areca nuts in Champhai district.

The areca nuts were recovered during an operation carried out jointly by the Serchip Battalion of Assam Rifles on Saturday with Customs Preventive Force.

The areca nuts-laden vehicles were seized during the operation on the Champhai-Mualkawi Road in Champhai district.

“Serchip Battalion of Assam Rifles on 24 Apr in a joint operation with Customs Preventive Force, recovered 380 bags of Areca Nuts worth Rs 97.67 lakhs in General Area Champhai-Mualkawi Rd, Champhai District in Mizoram,” Assam Rifles tweeted.

In another joint operation carried out by Assam Rifles troops of Serchhip Battalion and Excise & Narcotics department, a large quantity of contraband including 987.8 gm of heroin were recovered.

It is estimated that the recovered contraband would cost Rs 4 crore.

The consignment was recovered from Zote Kai area at Champhai in Mizoram.

“Serchhip Battalion of Assam Rifles on 23 Apr in a joint operation with Excise & Narcotics Department recovered large quantity of contraband incl 987.8 gms of Heroin worth Rs 4 Crores in Zote Kai Champhai in Mizoram,” Assam Rifles tweeted.
