In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles recovered 40 bags of areca nuts at Bulfekjawl in Mizoram.
The Serchhip Battalion carried out the operation on Friday under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East).
Based on specific information, the operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles and Customs department at Zokhawthar in Champhai district.

It is estimated that the approximate cost of the recovered areca nuts is Rs 6.72 lakh, said official sources.
The Customs Preventive Force in Champhai district later seized the contraband items.
In an earlier operation, Assam Rifles troops seized drugs and areca nuts, smuggled from Mynamar, worth of Rs 6.35 crore in Mizoram and nabbed three persons in connection with the case, officials said on Friday.
Assam Rifles officials said the troops of the force in eastern Mizoram on Thursday and Friday seized 260 bags of areca nut, commonly known as betel nut, 612.8 gm heroin and 2,69,000 Methamphetamine tablets.
