In two separate operations, the Assam Rifles troops deployed in Mizoram recovered 370 bags of smuggled areca nuts in two different places and nabbed 3 persons in connection with the seizures.
In one of the operations against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered 240 bags of areca nuts in the general area of Ruantlang on Monday, the HQ IGAR (East) said in a statement.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and 20 FIT, Champhai based on specific information, it said.
The cost of the recovered areca nuts is estimated to be approximately Rs 34,11,700.
The Customs department of Champhai seized the contraband items and also detained two individuals in this connection.
“Ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram, especially along the India-Myanmar border. Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram,” the statement said.
In another operation against smuggling activities, the Serchhip Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (East) recovered 130 bags of areca nuts in the general area of Tlangsam-Ruantlang on Monday.
The operation was carried out by a team of Assam Rifles, Champhai based on specific information, the HQ IGAR (East) said in another statement.
The cost of the recovered areca nuts is estimated to be approximately Rs 32,55,200.
The Customs department of Champhai seized the contraband items and detained one individual in connection with the seizure.
