In yet another success in its crusade against anti-social activities, the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) recovered a rifle and ammunition and other items.

According to a statement issued by HQ IGAR (East), Assam Rifles troops recovered a .303 Rifle, 1 magazine, 40 live rounds of ammunition from the general area of Lungsir in Mizoram’s Mamit on May 31, 2021.

“The operation was carried out by a joint team of Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police based on specific information on May 31, 2021,” the HQ IGAR (East) stated.

The operation was conducted on the basis of confirmed intelligence inputs about the war-like stores.

“Swift and bold action of security forces resulted in apprehension of one individual and he was later handed over to the Mamit police station,” the statement said.

Ongoing smuggling of illegal goods is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram.

Assam Rifles, rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ has been successful in launching such operations against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, the statement added.
