At least 23 people, including 15 Assam Rifles jawans and 7 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram, the second highest single day spike in the state, official sources said.
A statement issued by state information and public relation department said the new 23 patients, including a 26-year-old woman were confirmed at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) on Thursday night.
The Assam Rifles jawans are posted at Zokhawsang near Aizawl and that of NDRF personnel at Lungverh, about 15 km from here, the statement said.
The lone woman patient has returned from Kolkata and belonged to Aizawl district, it said.
Mizoram has so far reported 226 Covid-19 cases, of which 83 are active cases while 143 people have already recovered.
Aizawl district has reported the highest Covid-19 cases with 81, followed by Lunglei district with 57.
South Mizoram’s Siaha district reported 23 cases, Mamit district-20, Champhai district-10, Kolasib and Lawngtlai district reported 12 cases each, Serchhip district-5, Khawzawl and Saitual reported 3 cases each while Hnahthial district has not reported any Covid-19 case till date.
Of the 81 cases in Aizawl district, 46 are active and 10 out of 57 in Lunglei district are active cases.
There are 14 active cases in Siaha district, 4 each in Lawngtlai and Mamit districts, 2 each in Champhai and Serchhip districts and 1 in Kolasib district.
Khawzawl, Hnahthial and Saitual districts are Covid-19 free as of now.
