Chakma became the third MLA to resign when he submitted his resignation yesterday.

Home Minister R Lalzirliana and former Health Minister Lalrinliana Sailo had tendered their resignation earlier.

Buddha Dhan Chakma was the Fisheries Minister after the Congress formed government for the second term in 2013.

He later resigned as minister after a strong pressure from the Central YMA.

He was accused of acting against the integration of the people of Mizoram.

Talking to Northeast Now, B D Chakma said that the internal conflict within the Congress party has left him with no choice but to tender his resignation.

“The present scenario has put me in a difficult position, there is only a bleak chance of getting elected from Congress ticket, so I decided to quit the party, I will join the Bharatiya Janata Party,” B D Chakma said.

During this present Assembly term, four MLAs have tendered resignation so far.

In 2015, Lal Thanzara, the younger brother of Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla resigned but only to be elected again in the next by-polls.

Former Health Minister and Home Minister submitted their resignations last week and had joined the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) party.
