The MNF got a massive 26-seat majority, according to Election Commission, crossing the mid-way mark of 21 seats.

The Congress, led by Lal Thanhawla could manage just five seats in the 40-member Assembly.

Outgoing Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla even could not retain his seat this poll.

On the other hand, the MNF, led by Zoramthanga, a former ally of the BJP in the State, had decided to contest independently this time and came out successful with absolute majority.

Former rebel leader leader and two-time Mizoram Chief Minister, 84-year-old Zoramthanga is all set to be the Chief Minister. He has already staked claim to form government and the swearing in ceremony of the new Government would take place next Saturday.
