As many as 18,247 persons have been caught and fined for violation of “Containment and Prevention of Covid-19 Ordinance 2020” since the ordinance came into effect from May 4, a police statement said on Sunday.
So far, a total of Rs.36.76 lakh has been collected as fine from the offenders, the statement said.
At least 345 people were arrested and a total of Rs 40,000 fine was imposed on them for defying lockdown rules between 9 am Saturday to 9 am Sunday, the statement said.
Of the 18,247 people, 8,749 have been arrested in Aizawl district, 551 in Kolasib district, 852 in Mamit district, 435 in Saitual district, 842 in Champhai district, 685 in Khawzawl district, 1,495 in Serchhip district, 537in Hnahthial district, 1,474 in Lunglei district, 1,460 in Lawngtlai district and 544 in Siaha district.
Besides, 623 people have been arrested under the jurisdiction of the superintendent of police (SP), Traffic in Aizawl since May 4, the statement said.
