At least 107 people, including a 2-month old baby, have tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, pushing the state’s tally to 1,692, official sources said.

According to a statement issued by state Information and Public Relations Department, at least 759 samples were tested with the help of RT-PCR machines at Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in the last 24 hours,  87 samples with TrueNat machines in various district hospitals and 1,059 samples were tested using Rapid Antigen Test.

Of the 759 samples tested at ZMC, 106 came out as positive for Covid-19 while one person was diagnosed with the virus through Rapid Antigen Test, it said.

All the 107 cases were reported from Aizawl, of which 38 cases were reported from a locality alone, the statement said.

It said that all the 759 samples tested at ZMC were collected during contact tracing between 14 and 20 September.

Five minors aged between two months and 17 years were among 107 newly infected patients, which comprised 73 males and 34 females.

According to health department, there are 680 active patients in the state while 1,012 people have already recovered from the virus.

Mizoram has not reported any death due to Covid-19.

The first Covid-19 case was reported in the state on March 24 with a 52-year-old pastor, who was discharged after 45 days of intensive treatment.
