Aizwal: Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr. L. Murugan on Wednesday pointed out the role of education and sustainable agriculture in Indiaโs journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, according to official sources.
During his visit to Mizoramโs Kolasib district near the Assam border, Murugan reviewed several government programmes and visited educational institutions.
At a state-run model primary school-I under the PM SHRI initiative, he interacted with students and spoke about the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, stressing that todayโs students will play a crucial role in shaping the countryโs future through education, innovation and civic responsibility.
Later, at the ICAR centre in Kolasib, the Minister launched the โKhed Bachao Abhiyan,โ a campaign focused on promoting chemical-free farming, improving soil health and equipping farmers with modern agricultural practices.
The initiative aims to encourage sustainable agriculture while enhancing productivity and supporting environmental conservation. Addressing ICAR and KVK officials along with local farmers, Murugan said agriculture will remain a core pillar of Indiaโs development strategy.
He also emphasised the need to provide farmers with advanced technologies, scientific inputs and climate-resilient methods to ensure food security and better yields.
On Tuesday, Murugan chaired a meeting with officials and civil society groups, including the Young Mizo Association, where he reiterated the Centreโs focus on the development of the Northeast, particularly in education, infrastructure and tourism.
He said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prioritised the regionโs growth, calling it essential to Indiaโs overall progress.
The Minister also noted improvements in sports and womenโs empowerment in Mizoram, along with better connectivity that has boosted tourism prospects.
He added that coordination between the Mizoram government and the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) is helping accelerate development projects, and said efforts are underway to promote the state as a filming destination to further support tourism and the creative economy.
